TORONTO – With the increase in crime across Toronto and surrounding areas, we are committed to providing our customers with added protection and peace of mind. That’s why we are now offering a Duress Code feature—completely free of charge.
What Is a Duress Code?
Under normal circumstances, customers use a four-digit code to arm and disarm their alarm system. This works perfectly for everyday use. But what happens if someone with bad intentions forces you to disarm your system?
If you enter your regular code, the system will simply disarm—without raising any suspicion. That’s where the Duress Code comes in.
How the Duress Code Works
A Duress Code is a special secondary code that looks like a normal disarm code. When entered:
· The alarm system will disarm as usual.
· At the same time, it will silently send a duress signal to the monitoring station.
· The monitoring station will immediately dispatch police to your location.
· Because it is treated as an emergency situation, authorities will respond as quickly as possible.
This feature allows you to comply with a threatening situation while secretly alerting law enforcement.
Important: Use Responsibly
As the saying goes, “With great knowledge comes great responsibility.”
If you accidentally enter your Duress Code, police will be dispatched to your property. If it turns out to be a false alarm, you may receive a bill for unnecessary dispatch.
For that reason, it’s very important to:
· Choose a Duress Code that is unique and easy to remember.
· Avoid similar number patterns.
For example:
If your regular code is 1234, do not make your Duress Code 1235. Numbers that are too similar can easily cause an accidental false alarm.
